Chapter I:

Chapter I:

A gale echoed throughout the chamber, the sound vibrating against the cold, purple glass floor upon which a body, cold and still lied. The eyes; closed, the hair; pale and blonde rested at around the head making a halo of gold. Overhead, upon a balcony a figure stood in front of an arched doorway. Its shadow looming over the floor where the body lay.

The light coming through the archway seemed to fragment through the creature’s body; more specifically the creature’s four great wings. The creature itself appeared to be a female pegasus.

Her fur was frosty white and her mane which appeared to illuminate with purple starfire was neatly styled falling down her back. As for her eyes; they were but hollow pits replaced with wisps of threatening blue starfire and hanging from her ears were two diamond earrings. Complimenting her earrings she also wore a silver necklace which held a mysterious jewel. Completing her look the pegasus was also wearing a long white robe embroidered in lavender formed various swirling patterns.

From the balcony upon which she was perched she stared down at the body. Her face showed signs of worry as thoughts of fear bled through her mind. “Jace” the Pegasus said aloud telepathically. “Jace...please. Wake up.”

There was no response just as she has suspected but again she tried; “Jace. Please, I’m begging you. Wake up!” But still there was no response.

The Pegasus knew that the boy was suffering from depression. He had locked himself away in a tower simply saying that he “wanted to be alone” and since then he hadn’t come out of the tower at all. And like all mothers she had grown worried about him.

Even though the boy, Jace wasn’t her blood-related son she was the only child she had ever known. His safety was her top priority, and whenever he was feeling down she was always there to comfort him. But her son’s recent behaviour couldn’t even be cured by her comfort and thus she had begun to grow stressed. She began to feel like she had failed as a mother. She had failed to keep her promise. And that if she failed to take care of Jace then she would also fail Empyrea to be the Archmortal that she was.

She knowing that she wouldn’t be able to bare the stress and depression if she lost her son had her whole gulid of Pegaseraphs to closely observe the entrance to where Jace had locked himself away. She hoped that during one of watches he would come out but no such events occurred. And so as a last resort she had the the guild take down the doors so that she herself could see the Fate of her son.

And here she now stood Lady Heway, Archmortal of Empyrea gazing down upon her son who laid unconscious upon the floor. Unsure what to do, she slowly began to cry. Her tears as if made of light fell towards the floor, each drop illumined the whole room.

Heway, defeated by her own love took a deep breath and recalled upon the past. She recalled upon her memories of Jace as a baby. She recalled how she cradled him, how he laughed, how he sang, and how he spoke. Each memory giving her hope that she could save her son from an early Fate.

And so, Heway in a last attempt took flight, spreading her large white wings into the open air, and within moments faster than light she was high into the air already descending to the Jace’s body. As her hooves rested upon the glass she picked up Jace just like she had did those many years ago and she placed his head upon her shoulder and once again she took flight. Flying through the archway and through the corridors of the Celestial Palace; Anavarin and then into the beautiful violet coloured star-filled skies.

The sky seemed to merge with the lush star-fire trees and the towering purple buildings that housed her people. As she flew she went higher each time, flying through the barrier that was Empyrea’s atmosphere and into the dark Spiral. Her wings beating against the air that wasn’t there; as she flew she made her way to a lost World. One of Shadow, one lost long ago upon the edge of the Spiral, the place was known as Khrysalis. Home to Burrowers and Arachna.

Heway knew that Jace’s mother originated from here, it was written in his aura. And thus she also knew that here she would find the answers to Jace’s mysterious power to move Shadow, as well as why he was not returning from the Shadow Realm. And so she flew...flying in the cold...dark...Spiral.
