Chapter II

Chapter II:

Silence, darkness, and nothingness filled the air. An uncanny aura like Light and Darkness seemed to emit from far off from the centre in which a figure seemed to float unconsciously. The figure’s hair waved about in the space as if even gravity was not present in this unknown place.

However, despite the situation of the environment the figure seemed to remain alive. Notably slight movements of the chest occurred occasionally; breathing in the air that was not there.

The figure itself was very human in appearance; Long, pale and slightly muscular arms which connected two average size hands with long slender fingers spread out in the darkness, the torso and chest moved in unison spreading the nothingness throughout the body. And replacing where there would normally be legs and feet was an aurora of ominous light. The face of the figure was also human in structure. The lips of the face were pale and pink, closed allowing no sound to pass from them; and the eyes, they were closed.

As the body floated in the darkness the what was once an empty, silent place began to change. The darkness began to form a picture of a sort. Dark figures like machines and men could be interpreted. The images formed from the darkness seemed to be at war with each other. Haunting screams and the whirring of gears echoed all around. The place of the battlefield was set in a forest of some sort; fires spawned and blossomed into an inferno scorching the earth ending the battle. And then a new picture took shape.

The setting was the same but this time there was no battle going on. Instead towering trees and wild plants sprung up all around a pathway that didn’t look damaged at all.

Sounds like metal against stone could be heard echoing off in the distance. And then suddenly the figure that was floating unconsciously in the sky began to stir. The eyes opened revealing a hollowed out area which was now inhabited by wisps of blue light. And the aurora that had replaced the figure’s legs began to take form.

As they took form the force that had kept the figure floating was now pulling it towards the dark surface. Slowly but steadily the figure reached the surface. The feet making gentle contact with the ground, and as they touched the earth it rippled. The ripple began to then produce colours of all shades. The black trees and other greenery began to take on multiple forms of colour. And the earth turned into a grayish-purple. Overhead the sky remained dark and rain fell from it. Each drop hitting the earth making it most and muddy.

It would have been peaceful if not for the haunting sound of the metal in motion.

Almost as if the figure had no control he began to run away from where the sound came from, each step giving him more momentum, increasing his speed. As he ran he approached what appeared to be the exit of the forest. The pathway ahead was bleak and made of cobblestone. Nothing surrounded it and the only thing noticeable was a massive tower which seemed to scrape the sky itself.

At its apex an ominous spiral of energy flowed. And as much as the figure wanted to stop running towards the tower he couldn’t; and so he ran.

The tower itself was round and made of glass, it was tinted a grayish blue and lining its exterior were rods of platinum. And as the figure got even closer an arched entry way was visible, it was made of stone and carved right into the glass.

Sealing its entrance were two massive doors made of platinum. Upon them a pattern of symbols was visible. Their meaning was oblivious.

The figure whom had been running for sometime now suddenly stopped. His head turned to look back and from the mist men or at least things that looked like men appeared. Where their faces would be were white masks and their attire consisted of a black hat along with metal armour. Some of the men held muskets, others swords. It was quite clear they were ready to put up a fight; and that fight was going to be with him.

Now consciously aware the figure in fear began to once again run towards the tower. But the further he ran the further the tower seemed to be. It was almost as if it was moving. But how?

The figure not sure what to do instead changed his course, instead of heading towards the tower he ran right. And as he continued to run he wasn’t paying attention to the ground and thus he walked off of the edge of the land. Falling into the abyss below, falling into unbearably chilling darkness…
